CARISA: Study overview
- The objective of CARISA was to evaluate the antianginal effects and tolerability of ranolazine SR at 750 mg bid or 1000 mg bid vs placebo.
- This was a Phase III, parallel, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study. Patients had chronic angina while still on a once-daily regimen of 50 mg atenolol, 180 mg diltiazem, or 5 mg amlodipine.
- The primary outcome was symptom-limited treadmill exercise duration at trough vs placebo.
- Other outcomes included exercise duration at peak (4 hours after dosing), time to angina, and time to a 1 mm ST depression at peak and trough (12 hours after dosing), angina frequency, nitroglycerin use, and blood pressure and heart rates at rest and during peak and trough exercise.
