MARISA: Study overview
- Initial trials of ranolazine used an immediate-release formulation.
- The objective of MARISA was to evaluate the antianginal effects and tolerability of ranolazine sustained release (SR) at doses of 500 mg bid, 1000 mg bid, or 1500 mg bid vs placebo.
- Patients included in this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase III trial had coronary artery disease and effort angina for >3 months. All patients were withdrawn from other antianginal medications before undergoing the baseline qualifying exercise test.
- All patients who were included (N = 191) were required to have reproducible angina-limited exercise duration and >1 mm ST depression.
- The primary outcome of the trial was symptom-limited treadmill exercise duration at trough vs placebo.
