Ranolazine: Pathophysiologic effects vs older antianginals

  • Late Na+ inhibitors provide additional flexibility to existing medical therapies.

  • In contrast to older therapies, late Na+ inhibitors exert their effects independently of hemodynamic pathways.

  • Other antianginal classes (inhibitors of Rho kinase, free fatty acid oxidation, and If current) may also be complementary to older therapies, but are investigational at present.
