IONA: Study design
- The objective of the IONA trial was to assess the cardioprotective effects of nicorandil in patients with stable angina.
- Patients were enrolled from 226 centers in the UK. Patients randomized to the nicorandil group were given 10 mg bid, which was increased to 20 mg bid after 2 weeks.
- Patients were followed for 1-3 years (mean of 1.6 years), irrespective of whether or not they had withdrawn from study medication.
