• Overview of clinical trials to improve endothelial function

The contents of the curriculum update represent a concise overview of clinical trials in the emerging field of study relating to the endothelium and its role in cardiovascular health and disease.

There is no doubt that advances have been made in reducing the morbidity and mortality of coronary artery disease (CAD) through a focus on treating late manifestations of disease. The new area of scientific excitement examines one of the early manifestations of CAD - endothelial dysfunction.

This lecture material explores the following:

  • Role of hypertension in endothelial impairment
  • Effect of dyslipidemia on endothelial function
  • Vasculoprotective effects of ACE inhibitors and HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors
